My art grew out of my journals that I have now kept for over 50 years. My early journals are all writing. Gradually they became illustrated with collage. I then began to tentatively paint in them. Watercolor was the media I settled on because it fit the small format of my journals. I learned how to carefully control washes and details. With the encouragement of my husband, Steve, I began to gradually paint outside my journals. Many of my paintings express my inner life. People often comment on my vivid use of color. I think this is based on my desire to intensify the world or uncover its real color that we with our limited vision can only partially see or the spirit of things that move on the edges of our vision. As Yeats said, "The world is full of magic things patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper."
I live in Berkeley, California with my husband, Steve, and son, Gabe.
